The Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board has awarded the South Santiam Watershed Council a nearly $149,000 grant for riparian restoration on Middle Crabtree and Upper Thomas creeks.

On Wednesday, October 19th there will be a twilight tour on the farm of Shirley Jolliff and Lee Peterman. The tour will be from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The tree farm address is 35488 Ede Road (between Scio and Lebanon).
Dan Olson of the Natural Resource Conservation Service will attend and explain the assistance programs available to land-owners. Wet prairie restoration will be discussed along with the management of conifer stands surrounding the wet prairie.
Drinks and snacks will be provided by the chapter but participants may wish to bring a sack meal.

Presentation: Birds of the Willamette Valley’s oak woodlands: Conservation needs and opportunities.
Speaker: Joel Geier
Joel Geier is a hydrogeologist who works mainly on groundwater contamination issues, but spends part of each year on scientific research aimed at conservation of grassland and oak woodland birds in western Oregon. He also server as field notes compiler for Audubon Society of Corvallis, and as coordinator of the Willamette Valley Birding Trail initiative, which promotes birdwatching opportunities in this region as a means of bringing tourism-based economic opportunities to rural communities.

The South Santiam All Lands Collaborative (SSALC) invites community members on a filed trip to the USFS Sweet Home Ranger District’s Trout Creek planning area on Friday, September 9, from 9am to 4pm. See the link below for more info.
