Visiting a site at McDowell Creek

Join the South Santiam Watershed Council on a free tour of ongoing and upcoming restoration in the watershed. The tour will begin at River Park in Lebanon at 1:00 pm, and we will vanpool to sites in the Hamilton, McDowell, and Moose Creek sub-watersheds.

At these sites you’ll meet landowners who are currently engaged with the SSWC in watershed restoration projects that benefit the fish, wildlife, and drinking water of the place we call home. We’ll also visit a major restoration project occurring on the Willamette National Forest that looks to improve habitat condition for the native winter steelhead that the South Santiam watershed is famous for!

This month, we are featuring ongoing work in the South Santiam “model watersheds” of McDowell and Hamilton Creeks. We’ll hear presentations from Eric Andersen, Monitoring Coordinator and Sarah Dyrdahl, Project Manager both with the Calapooia-Santiam watershed council collaboration. Sarah will be presenting on the progress of riparian planting projects as well as exciting in-stream habitat work slated for McDowell Creek this summer. Eric will be presenting on the monitoring strategy in the model watersheds and the results from last year’s baseline monitoring in McDowell and Hamilton Creeks. Board business will follow the presentations.
